Overview
MCCC is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit business membership organization dedicated to accelerating the success of our members and community. Our mission revolves around advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as facilitating connections among business leaders through various programs and events. With a diverse and dynamic board representing businesses of all sizes and industries, MCCC plays a pivotal role in the economic development of Montgomery County and the Greater Washington, DC Capitol Region.

 

Role
The President & CEO serves as the chief administrative officer of MCCC, responsible for driving fundraising and overseeing the organization's operations and strategic direction. Reporting directly to the board of directors, this individual will lead advocacy efforts, event management, financial oversight, and strategic partnerships. In addition to managing MCCC's activities, the CEO provides support to MCCC’s affiliated 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, the Montgomery County Chamber Community Foundation (MCCCF), ensuring alignment with its distinct mission and objectives. Together these entities have a $4.5M budget. As the primary spokesperson, the CEO represents MCCC's interests with integrity and excellence, fostering relationships with stakeholders and driving forward the organization's vision for economic growth and community impact.

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Membership
• Identify and recruit Strategic Partners and Leadership Circle members, securing major sponsorships for signature events.
• Work collaboratively with event committee chairs, board members, and staff to plan and execute annual award dinners and business recognition events.
• Drive sponsorship sales and revenue generation in accordance with budgetary goals.
• Partner with the VP of Marketing and Membership to develop strategies for enhancing membership experiences and achieving growth targets.
• Actively engage in membership outreach activities and events to foster strong relationships within the business community.


Strategic Leadership and Management
• Develop, with the board of directors, annual and long-term strategic plans and report on accomplishments.
• Offer leadership at the executive level, which includes supporting and developing staff, as well as overseeing performance management.
• Collaborate with the CFO and other key stakeholders to develop and manage annual budgets, ensuring effective financial controls and compliance.
• Oversee talent management and contractor relationships to support mission-critical operations.

 

Advocacy & Engagement
• Collaborate closely with the Executive VP and VP of Government Relations on federal, state, and local policy advocacy and work with the Chamber’s Government Contracting Network, GovConNet, Council, and federal lobbying team.
• Serve as the chief spokesperson for MCCC, working in tandem with the VP of Marketing and Membership to effectively communicate the organization's positions and initiatives.
• Represent MCCC's brand commitment to integrity and excellence in all interactions, serving as a connector, communicator, and supporter of allied organizations.

 

Board Relations
• Manage the annual election process for board officers and oversee governance procedures in alignment with MCCC's mission and objectives.
• Cultivate relationships with board members to identify advocacy priorities, strategic partnerships, and sponsorship opportunities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
• Demonstrated leadership experience spanning 7-10+ years within chambers of commerce, business advocacy organizations, or related sectors.
• Proven track record shaping strategic vision and driving decision-making aligned with organizational objectives.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

 

Industry Knowledge and Skills
• Proven success in fundraising, business development, and sales strategies.
• Extensive expertise in navigating federal, state, and local legislative processes.
• Well-established relationships, or the ability to develop them, at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Demonstrates a genuine passion for enhancing Maryland's economic competitiveness and brings an adept understanding of pertinent business issues.
