Overview

Gauthier, Alvarado & Associates, a Northern Virginia Architectural/Engineering firm, is a multi-disciplined engineering firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineering for a variety of projects that include commercial office buildings, educational facilities, public agencies, and interior tenant build-outs. GAA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is able to lead projects and develop construction documents for HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and control systems. LEED certification is desirable. 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the candidate will include:

  • Reviewing projects for coordination
  • Preparation of studies, design, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration services  
  • Good communication and writing skills are a must.

 

We are interested in candidates who are self-motivated, possess a great attitude and who will fit in as a vital member of our firm working closely with our in-house Architects, structural and electrical engineers. The person will be involved in a variety of projects ranging throughout Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Candidates must be well-organized, clear communicators, and proficient in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Carrier HAP Program (or similar load estimating programs), Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidates must have hands-on experience with construction documents, writing specifications, and understanding building codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • PE preferred.
  • 8 years of experience preferred in mechanical design for commercial, educational and government facility projects. Fewer years will be considered for candidates who have their PE license and have demonstrated project management experience in building systems and construction.
  • Experience with design and analysis of air and hydronic distribution systems, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and controls for building HVAC systems.
  • Experience with design and analysis of plumbing systems.
  • Construction observation experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Carrier HAP Program (or similar load estimating programs), Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Candidates must be well-organized and clear communicators
  • Candidate must have hands-on experience with construction documents, writing specifications, and understanding building codes.
