The Director of Construction oversees the entire Construction Department, including the Plumbing and Electrical divisions for Landis Architects | Builders. They will work with the construction, plumbing, and electrical team to manage the workflow of construction projects through our pipeline. They will also be responsible for creating and maintaining schedules, monitoring construction activities, and ensuring on-time delivery of profitable projects, along with quality control. It will be critical for the Director of Construction to build strong working relationships with their reports and their cross-functional stakeholders, as well as with clients for securing new business opportunities.

leadership in green remodeling and award-winning designs. Our offices are in Takoma, DC, and are less than a 5-minute walk to the Takoma Redline Metro Station.


1. Manage, support, and mentor, all members of the Construction, Plumbing, and Electrical departments.
2. Responsible for the management and mentorship of all functions of the Assistant Construction Manager.
3. Responsible for creating and providing metrics/results on on-time and on-budget projects to the bi-weekly
management meetings.
4. Be an essential resource and the principal party responsible for Project Manager issues once construction
5. Lead weekly Project Manager (PM) meetings.
6. Meet with Project Managers individually, once a week, to review schedules, budgets, and resources; and send
pertinent reports to team leaders and other Directors on a regular basis.
7. Send relevant reports to team leaders and other Directors, as needed.
8. Monitor PMs and Division Managers’ compliance with record-keeping practices, client communication, and
scheduling within SmartSheets.
9. Review SmartSheets Master Schedule weekly.
10. Attend Project Close-out meetings, convey, and implement lessons learned.
11. In conjunction with the Office of Talent & Culture (OTC), lead hiring and onboarding for the construction,
plumbing, and electrical department.
12. Responsible for the selection of Trade Partners, including evaluating and quality assessments.
13. Analyze job cost accounting and modify practices to improve profitability.
14. Responsible for the compliance and tracking of ‘8 Meetings for Success’ parts 5-7. Will also attend/lead
meetings 3-4.
15. Support PM’s in managing client expectations; so that projects remain within contracted scopes of work and
within reasonable limits of perfection.
16. Work with adequate managers to conduct staff performance reviews and advise Management on promotions,
individual growth plans, and compensation in a timely manner.
17. Monitor and manage job-based bonus plans for applicable departments.
18. Work with Dir. of Operations Systems Improvement to create construction department AOP and participate in
quarterly AOP progress reviews.
19. Ensure all information is up to date and ready for reporting, prior to the meeting.
20. Achieve construction goals by fostering and training staff on best practices, code changes, and current
building science.
21. Responsible for Project Managers maintaining weekly schedule up to date.
22. Responsible for coordinating all tasks related to SmartSheets. Including, but not limited to: ensuring
construction staff is updating job logs bi-weekly, ensuring PMs are entering change orders, ensuring, RFIs in
construction are requested properly, and ensuring 360 photos are taken and uploaded prior to the close-in.
23. Other duties, as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in related discipline required
• Ability to interact and communicate well with other employees, trade partners, vendors, and clients
• Familiar with company and industry quality standards and processes
• Knowledge of remodeling, carpentry, and related building trades
• Product knowledge of cabinetry, appliances, finishes, and lighting
• Good working knowledge of scheduling software
• 5 + years of construction supervision experience
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw a valid conclusion. Ability to multi-task and to work effectively under pressure due to conflicting demands is required. Language Skills
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, including listening and interpersonal relationship communication skills as well as coaching and collaboration. This must include a strong presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of his/her staff and internal and external customers appropriately and professionally.

Computer Skills
Excellent keyboarding skills with a high level of accuracy are required. Must have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, possess the capacity to learn software programs required for a specific position, and must be able to access electronic communications, including e-mail and the Internet.

Work Environment

• The position may require frequent travel to multiple sites. The employee must provide their own reliable transportation, for the performance of agency duties.
